Healthy lifestyle tips

In today’s lifestyle, where people have no time to read, podcasts seem to be a life saver who wants to keep abreast with the latest happenings. Recently, Audible came out with a new podcast ‘Kya Lifestyle Hai’ which deals with everyday issues and Dr. Siddhant Bhargava, who is a ketogenic diet specialist shares tips that can help lead a healthy lifestyle.

1. Make water your best friend

It is the liquid that makes life possible on Earth. Water plays an important role in the functioning of the brain while providing enough energy for the day. Talking about the relevance of water Dr Bhargava in his podcast said that water is one element that tricks your mind into thinking that the stomach is full. “First and foremost, if you want to end this unhealthy relationship with your body, start giving more importance to water. Emotions play an important role in increasing your hunger, but when you drink water, it subsides that hunger and makes you feel alright. When you drink water, it gives your mind a signal that the stomach is full and thus one should not have food at that time.”

2. Curd and Nuts are a MUST

Protein plays an important role in repairing and regenerating the cells in your body. In Dr. Siddhant’s opinion protein is one of the most important macronutrients which can be found in several food items. Further explaining his point, he says, “If you do not eat food for 12 hours, and then when you start eating, what should be the one component that has to be in your food? The answer is ‘Protein’. I have been starting my meal off with eggs for the past 15 years now but if you belong to a vegetarian household that is a typical vegetarian household, then what do they have? Say you had Poha, Upma, Dosa, and Sandwiches, this forms your typical breakfast. What you will find the most in this breakfast are carbohydrates. Poha, Upma, are all energy-giving substances, but they lack protein. So, what you can do to sort of compensating for this is to start including nuts in your breakfast. I know nuts are a source of fat, but they also are a source of protein. Start including curd in your breakfast. Curd in my opinion is also a very underrated protein source.”

3. Make your home a ‘No Junk Zone’

Junk food can be attractive and tastier but very unhealthy. Hence, keeping junk food at bay is the only way you can adopt a healthy lifestyle. He says, “The second most important thing for you to remember is that you have to keep your house a junk-free zone. Once you removed all such unhealthy foods from your home, and you still feel sad or happy, there will be less inclined toward such unhealthy food and one might think twice or make efforts before going out to find such food. In this fast-paced generation, no one does so much effort. You are just going to find something else to do.”

4. Incorporate healthy alternatives gradually

To make sure you get a solution to the previous point, he suggests “Keep fruits and vegetables near yourself for such time. Pay attention to how you can make these vegetables interesting. You can even keep chana, murmura, chickpeas, makhana, and seeds in your home for healthy snacking. There are so many things that have the equal potential of stimulating your brain to feel happy.”

5. Form a healthy relationship with food

At last, Dr. Bhargava says that one must make a healthy relationship with food. Be conscious of how you wish to lead a healthy lifestyle without resorting to patterns which will attract you to food unnecessarily. Reiterating the same he says, “You have to think actively about not moving towards food. Instead, make your way toward something that can excite you like playing a sport, a video game or maybe watching some series on an OTT platform. But make sure that you don’t go towards unhealthy foods.
