They are considered a great addition to a regular diet as they are abundant in essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fibre, protein, potassium, magnesium and many others that are vital for the functioning and development of the body.
Fruits are considered a great snack option to binge on when in a hurry. From eating raw to consuming fruit juices, there are abundant ways in which fruits can be consumed in our daily diet. But there are some ways in which one should consume fruits to take full advantage of the nutrients present in them. Here are some mistakes that one should avoid while eating fruits. In an Instagram post of Satvic Movement owned by Nuritionist Harshvardhan and Subah, they highlighted some major mistakes that we all practise while consuming fruits but should avoid.
1. Juicing Fruits All The Time
While extracting juices from the fruit can be an occasional option, making it a regular thing can have detrimental effects on our overall health. When we extract juices from fruits, the nutritional value of the fruits decreases significantly. When we juice fruits all the time, all of their natural sugars are left in the glass of juice, while the fibre and roughage are separated. Consuming too many amounts of fruit juice in a go puts pressure on our pancreas to suddenly process all that sugar. Therefore, instead of drinking fruit juices, try to eat them whole with the fibre or even if you want to make the fruit juice, add 50% of water into the juice and then consume it.
2. Eating Unripe Fruits
Eating unripe fruits is generally bad for health as it can cause heartburn, acid reflux, diarrhoea, stomach ache, vomiting and other digestion-related problems. The unripe fruits are not good in taste and are also difficult to digest. They are also not fully developed to nourish your body with the necessary vitamins and minerals.
How To Identify Ripe Fruits: The unripe fruits are soft in texture, and have a fragrant smell.
3. Leaving Fruits Out After Cutting Them
Leaving fruits after cutting them for a long period of time can be harmful to our health. Once fruits are cut, the process of oxidation begins. This lowers the nutrition of the fruits, making them lack the necessary nutrients. Once the inner flesh of the fruits is exposed to air, the oxygen can cause significant nutritional loss.
4. Eating Fruits That Are Too Cold
One should always avoid eating chilled fruits and prefer consuming room-temperature fruits. It is because consuming cold fruits can lead to various gut-health problems such as cramps, bloating and many others. Therefore, one should always prefer consuming fruits at normal room temperature.
