How to Shake Negative Thoughts
Unfortunately, negative thoughts creep up on us more often than we’d like. It’s easy to get caught in a downward spiral of negative thinking because these types of thoughts tend to feed on each other. The good news is that you can break free from them by changing your thoughts into positive ones instead. Below we share some tips for how to shake those negative thoughts.
Change your environment
If you find yourself getting caught in a loop of negative thoughts, one way to shake those thoughts is to change your environment. This can be something as simple as going for a walk and getting some fresh air or reading a book while cuddled up in bed. These simple changes can help you to put your current environment out of your mind and shift your focus to new things.
Journal and meditate
When you journal, you give yourself the chance to let go and process your thoughts and emotions. You can do this by writing out your thoughts or using guided journaling to explore your feelings in more depth.
Meditation is another great way to clear your head and shake negative thoughts. When you meditate, you’re giving your brain space to process all of those thoughts that have been running through your head.
Ask yourself 3 questions before bed
Asking yourself 3 questions before bed can help you to shake those negative thoughts and start to see them in a new light. Some questions you can ask yourself include “What am I grateful for today?” or “What did I learn today?” These types of questions will shift your focus to the positive things in your life. Other questions include “What am I excited for tomorrow?” or “What challenges do I need to overcome tomorrow?”
These types of questions can help you to clear your head and focus on things that are coming your way or the challenges you need to overcome.
Find activities that make you happy
When you find activities that make you happy, you get the chance to shift your focus away from those negative thoughts. This can be as simple as reading a book that you’re interested in or watching a show you’re interested in.
Take care of your body
While taking care of your body isn’t exactly the same as shaking negative thoughts, it can help you to feel better both mentally and physically. For example, regular exercise can help you to clear your head.
Negative thinking is something that everyone deals with, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it ruin your life. When you’re able to shake those negative thoughts and make room for positive ones, you get the chance to make your life what you want it to be.
